Jennifer O'Dell - Questions & Answers

sep
Updated: May 9th, 2008
Jen O'Dell I've finally had time to up date this section of my site. I'm so sorry I haven't been more prompt about up dates, but I seem to have a life here in L.A. that keeps me very busy. I've also been heartbroken with a few select fans who like to write in and give me there personal opinions of me or my career that haven't been very nice or up lifting. Most of you who write in are kind and have questions, but there are others out there (you know who you are) who are sad sad people with nothing better to do than rip on others to make themselves feel better for the sorry lives they are living.

I'd like to quote something I heard Alec Baldwin say during an interview with the Actors Studio. He said, "Acting is what I DO for a LIVING. This is how we get a pay check!" We read a script and do it either because we really like the script or the director or other actors doing the movie OR , Just maybe, we might be doing it because it PAYS OUR FREAKIN BILLS!
And it happens to be a lot of fun! We enjoy entertaining ourselves AND other people. We might not make an epic classic movie or tv show each and every time we work, but who the hell gives a shit! Oh, that's right, YOU, the one sitting at his computer hating the world around him for being happy. Come on! This business I am in is hard to maintain because 'fame is fleeting', but like our Mother's always say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all". OR, Please allow me to dwell atop your cubical and scrutinize how you sit stand or speak, how you wear your hair or pick your nose, or Oh, please allow me to comment on ALL of your career choices as I'm sure your sitting exactly where you'd like to be in life.

At least I am doing what I want to do with my life and not doing it because it only pays my bills. I enjoy making other's happy. I enjoy the fact that others watch me or my characters and it makes them think, gives them hope, or just makes them smile. I've had people write in telling me they will always remember moments watching me with their son who had some form of cancer and they love to relive those moments because their family members are no longer with them. That is why I do what I do.

What do YOU do with YOUR life? How do you make the world a little better? Really, if you would like to write in to me please give me some inspiration and love. That is only what I wish for everyone out there in the world.

Today:
* Say, 'Bless You' when a stranger sneezes. It'll make them smile.
* Buy a box of cookies from a girl scout... Remember when you were little?
* Go to a homeless shelter for a day and help feed the poor. You'll come home and want to hug your family.
* Tell YOUR MOTHER THAT YOU LOVE HER AND YOU APPRECIATE HER FOR RAISING YOU. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY...

Here are some Answers to a few questions already received....

Q: Dear Jennifer! At first sorry for my bad English (I am from Austria/Europ), but I just want to say, that you are my favourit actress! I have a question, are there any ways to get a autograph from you (and maybe from the other characters of The Lost World)? Thanks for your time! Meg

A: Hi Meg, I actually get a lot of foreign emails and there are so many I can't read so thanks for trying YOUR best. YES, you can get a personalized photo from me. Go back to the HOME page and at the TOP is a button that say's AUTOGRAPHED PHOTOS. It will take you to my store where you can purchase a photo... with or without my autograph. Thanks for question.

Q: Thanks for making the Lost World. Your smile always brightens my day whenever I watch that show. I too live in California, near Bass Lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Best wishes on your bright career, - Kenneth

A: Thanks so much Kenneth! Thanks for the well wishes. Good luck with your life too!

Q: First I would like to say, I have truly enjoyed your performances that I have been privileged to view. That said, my favorite remains the Lost World. I am still holding out hope that it will be finished properly. Before you start thinking I'm just an obsessed fan, I would like to let you know i am a fairly well educated 41 year old health care professional, who barely has trime to watch TV. Due to my hectic life I pick and choose the shows I watch very carefully. Lost World is in my top 5 shows, which include MASH and Star Trek (original). I know that this is not likely to help at this late date, but is there still some interest with any producers and do you know how I can contact them? What really happened with season 4? I have never heard of a show being renewed and then just cut off like that. The summary by J&G was wonderful, but it just increased my frustration with the show not having a season 4. I am well aware that this was just one show in your career, but I hope you are aware that it was special show. It is very rare for a cast to have the type of synergy that the Lost World cast had. It would be a shame for some producer 15 years from now to decide to finish the show, like they did with Lost in Space, and have it be too late for the original cast. You, the orignal cast, are what made it soo good. So any suggestions or thoughts, or if you can pass this on to the right people would be appreciated. Good luck in your career and thank you for taking the time to read this e-mail. - Kristen Sayles

A: First of Kristen, Thank you for YOUR time and effort of writing this letter. I know what you mean by having a hectic life and picking the shows we choose to relax in front of.... all too precious time we don't seem to have enough of! Thank God for TIVO! Many Many Many of The Lost World Fans have written in with this very same question.... Sadly, I have to say that there will never be a continuation of a 4th season or even a final 2 hour special to finish the show properly. I'm not the producers, but if I were I would have given the show the respect it deserves and finished it off properly. The show was a huge task for all parties involved. It was a VERY expensive show to shoot. It was also a very difficult show to shoot with so much of it being shot on location in the Australian rain forests which happen to be an hour or more drive from where we all lived! So, all in all it became very taxing on everyone. By the 3rd year all of us were pretty pooped! And each year we started a season we counted down the days as they were VERY VERY long. With it being a Canadian / Australian co production us actor were under a 10 hour turn around, which means we only had 10 hours from the time we got dropped off at our front door till they could pick us up again to bring us back to set. That barely gave us time to shower and go to sleep! All that being said, I would do it all over again in a heart beat. I loved the experience it gave me and the life long friendships I will cherish. So, to finish off your question, I don't have any suggestions to get the show going again. I know a huge majority of the fans have tried letters and petitions, but to no avail. Wish I could put the money together myself and at least finish the show off with a 2 hour movie! I think the fans deserve it!

Q: I saw a familiar face on NCIS Tuesday night and it's been killing me to figure out who it was. Finally..... Veronica from The Lost World. Looking good but I like the blonde look better. Natural? Hope to see you agian soon. - Glenn

A: Thanks for your note Glenn. I am actually a natural dark Brunette. Everyone has different tastes that is for sure. I have an old friend from grade school who still has a hard time with my blonde hair because she always knew me as a dark brunette. Can't please everyone all of the time. I usually do something that I like, not what I think everyone else will like anyway. Wouldn't that be boring! Then there wouldn't be someone complaining or gossiping!

Q: Hi Jen, good to see you back in some \"extended\" film roles, and not before time. You have a great fan base here in England and I personally want to wish you and your family, all the very best for the future. Very Kind Regards, Gary

A: I haven't yet made it to England, but I'm dying to go! I have a few friends from there and I'd love to visit or work there. Thank you so much for your email! Your well wishes are heard and I send them right back at you!

***Thanks again for writing in. I get quite a lot of emails everyday and again I just want all of you to know I DO read all of them. Yes, I'm a busy woman and mother, but there's always time for my fans. I love to hear your stories. And as I've said before, not every day of mine is perfect… so its nice to sit at my computer and read such lovely well wishes. Here’s to a wonderful 2007’.

Smiles & Laughter, Jen

*** If you have any suggestion's for the site or things you'd like to see more of ie: certain photos or even behind the scene's stuff... I might be able to dig up something in my old bag of tricks.
